2 Replies to “Chatbots and Intention”

  1. When ChatGPT responds to a prompt can we say it ‘intends’ to respond as it does? Intention seems to imply having a goal or objective, but the response of a chatbot is statistically determined. One could say it’s the intention of the chatbot designers to have the chatbot respond in a normal conversational manner. But doesn’t this intention belong to the designers, not the AI chatbot itself?

  2. Although a chatbot seems to be aware of the topic of conversation and responds like a human, the deeper one goes the more likely you’ll encounter the limitations or even hallucinations. Chatbots may start to lose their way, start to repeat themselves, or give the ambiguous answer, “I don’t have enough information about that.”
